Jonothan Whyte is as Associate Staff Barrister in Catherine’s team. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours degrees in 2018, and joined Catherine's practice in 2021 to pursue his passion for advocacy in employment law.
Jono regularly represents clients as counsel at mediations and in the Employment Relations Authority and acts as junior/second counsel in the Employment Court. Recent major cases which Jono has appeared in as counsel include Parker v Magnum Hire Limited (co-counsel for Mr Parker) and MW v Spiga (junior counsel for the Law Association).
Jono takes a pragmatic and interpersonal approach to his work and strives to support clients faced with stressful situations to resolve matters as smoothly as possible.
Jono has wide-ranging employment law experience and acts for employees and employers in major bullying cases, restructures, restraint of trade disputes, disciplinary and regulatory matters for teachers and health professionals, personal grievances, health and safety cases, misconduct and performance matters, minimum entitlement disputes, medical incapacity issues, whistleblowing, negotiating contracts, and human rights and discrimination and privacy cases.
Jono's previous work experience includes a union organiser role for two unions in the health sector and a role exclusively for small to medium businesses.
